Two John Jay High School students were hit by a car driven by a suspected drunken driver Thursday afternoon in front of the campus, police said.
Police said Liliana Schouten-Hernandez and Cordell Boyd, both 18, were standing on the sidewalk waiting to cross the 7600 block of Marbach Road around 12:45 p.m. when a 2016 Toyota Corolla struck both of them before crashing into a crosswalk pole.
The students were taken to University Hospital with serious injuries.
An open container was found in the vehicle and officers smelled alcohol on the driver's breath, police said.
The driver's mother, who was a passenger in the car, told police the driver appeared to suffer a seizure prior to the crash.
The driver, a 41-year-old man, was also transported to University Hospital, where a blood warrant will be executed.
He is expected to be charged with two counts of intoxication assault, police said.
