A woman was killed and her husband and granddaughter were injured in a mobile home fire early Thursday morning in Boerne, fire officials said.

When firefighters arrived at the scene around 3 a.m. in the 220 block of Bluebonnet Drive, the mobile home was fully engulfed in flames.

Chief Doug Meckel, of the Boerne Fire Department, said a neighbor jumped into action and pulled the woman's granddaughter from the burning home.

"The young lady had gone in the front door and found her shortly inside and extracted her, took her out," Meckel said. "Most neighbors are willing to help and do what they can."

The woman's husband was able to make it out safely, but the woman's body was found later inside one of the bedrooms.

A family member said the man suffered severe burns to his forehead and the young girl suffered smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Leon Springs and Bergheim fire departments also responded to the fire.
