A tractor-trailer collided with a school bus carrying at least 10 students from the Corpus Christi area on the Southeast Side.
The crash happened Saturday evening on Loop 410 at South W.W. White Road.
The tractor-trailer failed to stop, as traffic was at a standstill due to an accident up the road, and hit four cars before crashing into the school bus. The tractor-trailer then road the guardrail of an overpass and fell 20 feet before crashing into the embankment below.
The tractor-trailer leaked so much fuel and liquid that authorities had to shut down the area as hazmat crews and investigators worked the scene.
VIA Transit transported the occupants of the bus to a Walmart parking lot to wait for another bus to come from Corpus Christi to pick them up. Everyone got off the VIA bus and waited inside the store.
A student told KSAT there were 10 students, a driver and three teachers aboard the bus.
Teachers said the truck driver walked away but was later seen in an ambulance. He was taken to the hospital with a broken arm, police said.
No other injuries were reported.
